I had ordered these Matouk bath towels for my parents last summer as a housewarming present when they moved in so it was fun to pick out a few coordinating pieces to complete the space before photographing it. Matouk makes some of the most exquisite bath and bed linens and these Cairo towels are no exception. The azure blue trim is a perfect match with the Thibaut “Bungalow” wallpaper my mom chose for the space! I ordered samples of this 3″ x 6″ white Thassos marble subway tile to coordinate with the color of the floor tile and it was a welcome upgrade from the dated square tiles that were here when we bought the house. We used the same shower head and valve trim as we did in our hall bathroom. And then I decided on these more traditional shower door handles that are so weighty and beautiful in person.

Speaking of matching the wallpaper, I ordered a custom roman shade in the same fabric and even though we rarely bother with closing the shade in this room, it’s a nice finishing touch that instantly made the room feel more polished and pulled together. I’d been coveting this Quadrille Arbre de Matisse wallpaper forever and decided to splurge in this small space. My dad installed the beadboard and chair rail to add a little architectural interest and keep things light and bright, plus it meant we could get away with ordering half as much wallpaper. We used this inexpensive beadboard and this chair rail (both painted this color) and it looks like it’s always been part of the house. Lighting fixtures are like pieces of jewelry in any finished space and especially in a bathroom that’s otherwise very light, bright, and simple. The next piece I ordered was this custom changer from ducduc. I knew we didn’t have space for a separate changing table and dresser, so this piece functions as both with a separate topper we can remove once we’re past our diaper-changing years. My mom and I made a trip to their showroom in New York to check out all the different options in person and decided on this Savannah dresser with five drawers, nickel hardware, and interior drawers custom painted to match the wallpaper. The quality of their pieces is incredible and the sky is truly the limit in terms of customizing each design to fit your space.
There was another long delay waiting for the company that sprays the concrete, but the day they arrived was one of the most exciting days of the project! Then they backfilled with dirt around the new shape. After relocating the stone wall that was originally beyond the old pool! This was day #1 of work on the pool, removing the old oversized concrete surround. This is a perfect piece for layering or to wear on its own. BUILDING A MUDROOM/LAUNDRY ROOM BETWEEN OUR PLAYROOM AND THE GARAGE // This project was also part of our renovation project last winter and spring and made this house so much more livable for a family with young children. The new mudroom now connects the playroom (where we ripped out carpet, put in hardwood floors, and replaced a set of windows with a wide doorway) to the previously detached garage and loft. I actually got the idea for hanging a polished nickel train rack with additional storage space for towels from a previous rental home of ours. And I love that it gives us room to stack a few extra clean towels in addition to the ones on hooks hanging next to the shower.
The next day I popped back in to Amy Berry Home for more shopping and to reconvene with Gailliot and Votta. Fueled by Whispering Angel rose and a multi-course meal by Cassandra Fine Catering, the girls in attendance stayed late, chatting all things fashion, design, and upcoming summer travel plans.
We considered a number of different gliders and I’m really glad we went with this one in the optic white. (The exact style is no longer available but this one is similar in style and price!) It’s risky to buy a chair without sitting in it first but thankfully it’s super comfy and the color is the perfect crisp white. I topped it with this adorable appliqué pillow that matches the blue in the wallpaper pretty closely.
